Semi vs Bridge In Englewood
June 3, 2008 ~ Around 1400 Englewood Firefighters were called to the intersection of Broadway & US Highway 285 for a reported semi hanging off the Broadway bridge. Company 21 arrived on scene to find a tractor drawn dump truck trailer standing vertically in the westbound lanes of 285 against the Broadway bridge. Crews determined that there were no injuries, began perimeter control & worked to mitigate the unusual situation. Englewood Police closed off traffic on 285 both directions and also closed northbound Broadway to protect crews and for an evaluation of the bridges stability. Public Works removed road debris and also removed the remaining sections of guard rail for tow truck access. A large wrecker was used to lift, rotate and lower the trailer down onto 285 where it could be safely removed. Streets were closed for about 2 1/2 hours and no injuries were reported from the scene.
