Louvires Wildland Fire

April 9, 2008 ~ In the early afternoon South Metro units were alerted to an open area brush fire burning to the south west of Louvires. First arriving Company 40 found at least one acre involved with very rapid spread and additional units were immediately ordered. Brush 40 made an initial mobile attack which was made difficult because of erratic, pre-cold front winds. Mutual aid from Littleton, Castle Rock and West Douglas all responded, the fire was declared under control in about one hour and contained to 30 acres. During this incident the temperature was in the 40's and other nearby locations were receiving rain, hail or snow.
