Oxyoke Vegetation Fire

July 20, 2008 ~ Just after the noon hour a USFS Ranger at the Devil's Head Lookout reported a smoke column visible along Highway 67 north of Trumbull to Pueblo Dispatch. Local USFS Pike Engines as well as units from the North Fork Fire District responded for initial attack. Units found an active wildland fire burning in in light to heavy vegetation on the west side of the highway, the size was around 20 acres and spreading quickly. Evacuations & a Reverse 911 were ordered for recreational areas and residences between Oxyoke & Nighthawk as well as preparedness notifications to the Spring Creek Subdivision. Within several hours the fire had grown to over 100 acres, air resources were making drops and a Type III IMT took over command. Mutual aid from Jefferson, Douglas & Park Counties assisted the Forest Service, as of Day 2 the fire was at 150 acres with no structural damage.
