Pagosa Springs Historic Hotel Fire

May 26, 2008 ~ Although a little out of my usual "first due" I managed to catch a structure fire in Pagosa Springs. The fire appeared to have been on the second floor of the Metropolitan Hotel, located in the historic district along US Highway 285. Pagosa's Ladder operated on the Alpha side while the Rescue and an Engine Company operated with one line stretched in the Charlie side alleyway. A local told me that around 100 years ago Pagosa Springs had a major conflagration along the same block. An open lot only one building north of the hotel is all that's left of a building that the FD intensionally imploded to stop the fire from taking the entire town. On Memorial Day Weekend the volleys were able to turn out 1 Ladder, 3 Engines, 1 Brush Truck and a Rescue.
